WASHINGTON, May 23 (UPI) -- An undeclared soy allergen in Thai Soba Noodle Salad has forced Whole Foods to recall the food item from stores in five states.

The packaged salads, which have a "use by" date of May 25, 2014, contain edamame (soybeans), but the labeling doesn't list the ingredient or warn those with a severe sensitivity to soy. Should someone with a soy allergy consume the product, they run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The recalled product was stocked and sold at stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, on May 22, 2014.

Customers who have purchased the recalled product can take their receipt to Whole Foods for a refund.
