VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- At least 11 people have been sickened by E. coli and one has died from an outbreak in western Canada linked to a cheese manufacturer, health officials said.
Health Canada said the outbreak originated with cheese from Gort's Gouda, a company in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, the Canadian Broadcasting Co. reported.
Four of the victims, including the person who has died, are from British Columbia and seven from Alberta, officials said. The first case occurred in July but most were in late August and September.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for 13 varieties of raw milk cheese sold between May 27 and Sept. 14 at Gort's own retail store, at stores in the two western provinces and on line.
