TEL AVIV, Israel, April 29 (UPI) -- Three Iraqi children, ages 1, 4 and 5, will receive treatment in Israel in the Save a Child's Heart program, officials said.
Interior Minister Minister Gideon Sa'ar approved the entry of the children, who are expected to arrive in Israel soon, Ynetnews.com reported Monday.
"The complexities of bringing in children from countries defined as 'enemy countries' depend on the cooperation between the medical staff and the government, but in the end it all proves that human life is above everything," said Simon Fisher, SACH executive director.
More than 3,000 children with cardiac illnesses have been treated in Israel in the program, which was founded in 1995. They have come from more than 40 countries. Children from China, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, the Palestinian Authority areas, Romania, Tanzania and Zanzibar are now receiving treatment in Israeli hospitals.
The children's treatment is funded by donations and a special budget organized by Regional Cooperation Minister Silvan Shalom.
SACH trains doctors and nurses from various countries in hospitals in Israel.
