Spinach off market for potential E. coli

SALINAS, Calif., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Taylor Farms Retail Inc. in California initiated a voluntary market withdrawal of select Organic Baby Spinach products due to potential E. coli, officials say.

The Taylor Farms website said: "Customers who purchased these products are urged not to consume the products and dispose of them. Consumers may contact Taylor Farms Retail Inc. for further information at 1-855-293-9811. Consumers with concerns about an illness from consumption of this product should contact a healthcare provider. There have been no reported illnesses attributed to the items withdrawn from the market."

The salad trays subject to the market withdrawal are limited to: Taylor Farms Organic Baby Spinach, 16 ounce trays UPC 0-30223-04780-3, sold in 39 states: Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Also being withdrawn are:

-- Central Market Organic Baby Spinach in 16 oz. trays UPC 0-41220-18534-4 sold in Texas.

-- Full Circle Organic Baby Spinach in 16 oz. trays UPC 0-36800-28875-1 sold in California.

-- Marketside Organic Baby Spinach in 5 oz. trays UPC 6-81131-32898-2 sold in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

-- Simple Truth Organic Baby Spinach in 5 oz. trays UPC 0-11110-91128-5 sold in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Teas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

All had a best buy date of Feb. 24.

No other products or code dates are affected by this market withdrawal. The company said it is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and California Department of Public Health regarding this market withdrawal.
