Ski hill managers support helmet laws

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Ski and snowboard hill managers in New Brunswick say they support mandatory helmet laws like those recently introduced in Nova Scotia, officials say.

In Nova Scotia, skiers and snowboarders who opt to not wear an approved helmet face a $250 fine, but in New Brunswick, wearing protective headgear is currently unregulated, CBC News reported.

"I think it's something that's probably inevitable. Helmets can probably make things a little safer, so I guess we'll just have to see what happens in New Brunswick. And if they decide to do that here, well, we'll support that for sure," said Greg Dion, the manager at Sugarloaf Park, outside Campbellton.

"It's almost like hockey was a few years ago. People look different now when they don't have a helmet on. But we highly recommend it, I mean it's one of those things in sports," agreed Bill Anderson, the general manager at Poley Mountain, near Sussex.
