FDA warns of Reumofan Plus sold as 'WOW'

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- U.S. health officials say the dietary supplement "WOW" -- marketed as a treatment for arthritis and muscle pain -- is potentially harmful.

Officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the agency's laboratory analysis confirmed WOW contained the same prescription drug ingredients in Reumofan Plus -- including dexamethasone, a corticosteroid; diclofenac sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug; and methocarbamol, a muscle relaxant. These ingredients have the potential to cause serious injury, the FDA said.

Reumofan Plus and WOW products are sold on various websites -- including www.gonepainfree.com and www.browerent.com -- to treat osteoporosis, bone cancer and other conditions, the FDA said.

The products are manufactured by Riger Naturals S.A. The FDA has become aware various websites, including www.reumofanusa.com, owned by Reumofan USA, LLC, continued to sell Reumofan Plus even after earlier FDA warnings, officials said.

"These dangerous products should simply not be sold or distributed," Melinda Plaisier, FDA's acting associate commissioner for regulatory affairs, said in a statement. "FDA is prepared to take aggressive enforcement action to protect consumers from these dangerous products, including seizure, injunction, and pursuit of criminal prosecution."
