In its 12th five-year report on healthcare, the government said a longer life span is part of a series of advances in the area, Xinhua, the official government news agency, reported. The report said China is in the process of forming a truly national health system that will be in place by 2015.
The plan includes increasing the number of beds in private hospitals to 20 percent of the total. The government also plans to increase subsidies for health insurance by 50 percent from 240 yuan ($38) to 360 yuan ($47).
The government also plans to train 150,000 more general practitioners by 2015.
