Recall for Canadian Kleenex hand sanitizer

OTTAWA, June 28 (UPI) -- A manufacturer's recall for large-bottle Kleenex-brand hand sanitizer was issued in Canada Thursday because of microbial contamination.

The Kimberly-Clark Professional Corp. said some 430 large-volume dispensers of Kleenex-brand Luxury Foam Hand Sanitizer should be taken out of service, the federal Health Canada agency said in a release.

The company determined bacteria in the Burkholderia cepacia group were present in the batch sold to institutions and wholesalers.

"These bacteria pose little risk to healthy Canadians, as their bodies are able to successfully fight off infections," the agency said. "For someone whose immune system has been weakened by other serious illnesses, especially cystic fibrosis, these bacteria can cause serious infections, including pneumonia and blood infection."

Kimberly-Clark asked anyone with batches with lot Nos. SA1229ANA and SA1229ANB to contact the company at 888 346-4652 for instructions and refund information.
