It take almost an hour to work off soda

BALTIMORE, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Most U.S. teens don't know how long it takes to work off calories in a soda, but once they know, they drink more water instead, researchers said.

Researcher Sara Bleach of The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore and colleagues had posters put in convenience stores, notifying teens of the amount of jogging they would have to do to work off the soda calories.

"It may take you 5 minutes to drink a bottle of soda," Bleach said in a statement. "But if you are a typical adolescent weighing 110 pounds, it would take you 50 minutes of jogging to burn off that bottle of soda."

The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, found once teens knew how long it took exercise away the calories, they bought more water and fewer sugar-sweetened sodas.
