Medical marijuana spray legal in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Medical marijuana was approved as a prescription medicine for the treatment of multiple sclerosis in Sweden, officials said.

The Medical Products Agency said a marijuana-based mouth spray can now used by patients who can't get relief from the most MS common drugs, The Local reported Sunday.

The spray, which is used under the tongue, has proven to be successful in alleviating stiffness and muscle cramps for patients with multiple sclerosis, Swedish officials said

The agency said it will closely monitor the prescription of the newly-approved drug to ensure it is not abused. However, the agency said the cannabis content is so low, users do not feel any sort of "kick."
