Hospital parking fees most annoying charge

LONDON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- British consumers say paying for parking at the hospital is the most annoying sneaky extra charge they encounter, a poll indicates.

The survey by the Web site DiscountVouchers.co.uk highlights consumer frustration at having to pay for extras many people think should be free. Respondents were asked to pick out the three most-aggravating extra fees from a list.

After tallying up the responses, the survey found Britain's Top 10 annoying charges are:

-- Hospital parking charges.

-- Restaurants that automatically add on service charges.

-- Paying to use the toilet at a railway station.

-- Paying to call customer services.

-- Low-cost airline add-ons.

-- Cash machine charges.

-- Car park machines that don't give change.

-- Credit card charges and commission on trips abroad.

-- Roaming fees for mobile phones.

-- WiFi charges at hotels or on trains.

"People feel they are being taken advantage of because they have no choice but to pay these annoying extras," Doug Scott, managing director of DiscountVouchers.co.uk, says, in a statement.

"Many of these fees show short-term thinking as we all suspect the charge far outweighs the cost of providing the service."
