LONDON, March 25 (UPI) -- A repetitive strain injury dubbed "BlackBerry thumb," caused by overusing mobile phones to send e-mail and texts, could lead to lawsuits, a U.K. law firm says.
The condition is so common the firm says employers can expect a series of lawsuits from workers seeking compensation, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.
"If no one knows about the risks involved, they won't sue, but more and more people are becoming aware of health hazards in the workplace," said Karen Jackson, of the firm Roberts Jackson in Cheshire.
"A lot of people displaying symptoms associated with repetitive strain injury do not realize they are work-related, but the number with symptoms is increasing," she said.
The firm said it is increasing its staff to cope with what it believes will be a sharp rise in ''BlackBerry thumb'' claims.
