HONG KONG, March 11 (UPI) -- Chinese authorities said the A/H1N1 flu caused six deaths in the central province of Hunan as 124 cases were reported in February, up 130 percent from January.
Deaths occurred in the cities of Zhuzhou, Hengyang, Yueyang, Huaihua and Changsha, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Friday.
A flu-related death was also reported in Hong Kong, Xinhua said.
The Hong Kong Hospital Authority said a 21-year-old female patient died Thursday, and two more cases were reported with the patients said to be in critical condition.
That brings the total to nine influenza cases in intensive care in Hong Kong hospitals, the authority said.
The A/H1N1 flu virus has recently become the predominant strain of flu in China with 20 deaths since the beginning of 2011, the Health Ministry of China said.
