ENCINO, Calif., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Children age 6 and under should keep Nintendo 3DS -- which displays 3D graphics without special glasses -- set at 2D mode, Nintendo's Japanese Web site says.
The Nintendo 3DS is scheduled to be released in early 2011. Nintendo's warning follows a similar warning concerning 3D-related technologies by Sony and Samsung.
The three companies say convulsions, altered vision, eye or muscle twitches, involuntary movements, loss of awareness and disorientation may occur among some players, Technewsworld.com reports.
Nintendo's Web site says about one player in 4,000 may suffer seizures or blackouts and it suggests parents monitor their children when they are playing video games, Technewsworld.com reports.
Nintendo says to reduce the risk of a seizure, players are advised to stay as far from the screen as possible, use the smallest available TV screen for their games, play in a well-lit room, take a break hourly and not play if they are tired or short on sleep.
