HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Eighty-six percent of U.S. adults say they indulge in sexual self-gratification -- 18 percent say they masturbate daily, a survey indicates.
The survey, commissioned by Adam & Eve, a retailer of adult products, indicates 18 percent say they masturbate one to three times per month, 17 percent say they rarely self-satisfy and 14 percent say they never participate in the act of masturbation.
"Masturbation is a healthy sexual outlet," Dr. Kat Van Kirk, a sex and relationship expert, says in a statement.
"Research shows it can help individuals cope with stress, improve the immune system and it enhances partnered sex. Masturbation is a great form of preventative medicine."
The Great American Sex Survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults was conducted by an independent third-party survey company. No further survey details were provided.
