CUDAHY, Wis., March 15 (UPI) -- Health officials in Cudahy, Wis., say they suspect thousands of people may have been recently been exposed to Legionnaires' disease.

Eight people who were at Aurora St. Luke's South Shore between Feb. 24 and March 10 were diagnosed with the pneumonia-like disease, and more cases are expected.

WTMJ-TV, Milwaukee, said Cudahy hospital officials on Monday attempted to locate anyone who may have been exposed to the disease.

"I'm sure we're going to be getting more cases," said Cudahy's health officer, Carol Wantuch.

State health officials had not confirmed the source of the disease, which can be spread in the air but is easily treatable if caught in time.

Wantuch assured the public that St. Luke's South Shore is safe and all potential hazards have been dealt with, WTMJ reported.
