Huntington beef products recalled

MONTEBELLO, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Huntington Meat Packing Inc., of Montebello, Calif., is recalling about 864,000 pounds of beef that may be tainted with E. coli, inspectors said.

Inspectors discovered the possible contamination during a food safety assessment, The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a release Monday.

Some of the recalled ground beef products were produced from Jan. 5 to Jan. 15 and shipped to restaurants, hotels, and distribution centers in California .

They included 40-pound boxes of Huntington Meats Ground Beef, 10-pound and 20-pound boxes of Imperial Meat Co. Ground Beef Patty and 10-pound boxes of El Rancho Meat and Provision All Beef Patties. Each box contained the establishment number "EST. 17967" inside the USDA mark of inspection on a label.

An inspection of the company's records showed suspect products of the same names and quantities were shipped within California from Feb. 19, 2008 to May 15, 2008.

The USDA said it has received no reports of illness associated with the beef products.
