COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Cellphone users in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden showed no significant increase in brain tumors, a study from the Danish Cancer Society said.

The study released Friday appeared to contradict studies from other countries that suggested cellphone use increased the risk of tumors.

The Danish Cancer Society analyzed information on 60,000 people diagnosed with brain tumors in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden between 1974 and 2003.

During that period, the incident rate for brain tumors was stable, decreased or continued a gradual increase that started before the use of cellphones. The researchers also found no change in brain tumor rates from 1998 to 2003, the period during which cellphones became widely used in the four countries, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

A 10-year study soon to be released by the World Health Organization is expected to say that heavy users of cell phones face a higher risk of brain tumors as they age.
