OTTAWA, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- The confirmed number of deaths from the H1N1 flu virus reached 94 in Canada as long lines formed at vaccination clinics across the country Wednesday.

Since Friday, two children in Ontario have died of the virus initially called swine flu, and Alberta and British Columbia each confirmed three deaths, the Canwest News Service reported.

In all, more than 1,500 people have been hospitalized from the virus, public health records show.

Clinics that opened this week were originally meant to vaccinate those at higher risk, although most facilities said they wouldn't turn anyone away.

Alberta announced Wednesday it would add another 11 more vaccination sites because of higher-than-anticipated demand that caught officials off-guard earlier this week.

Toronto announced it would open public clinics five days ahead of schedule Thursday as a result of the surge in demand, Canwest said.

In Quebec City, one school ordered the entire building sanitized Tuesday after the absenteeism rate hit 18 percent. It wasn't immediately known if the flu virus -- or fear of it -- was responsible, the report said.
