LAKE GENEVA, Wis., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin physical education teacher says she wants her students to learn how to set and meet the goal of becoming fit.
Beth Ivey of St. Francis de Sales School in Lake Geneva says she will be giving her students in fifth-grade through eighth-grade a 12-week interactive fitness and food journal.
"More than ever, taking responsibility for your health is a critical subject kids must learn while they're young," Ivey says in a statement.
The journal -- called Fitbook Junior -- is an extension of its parent product, Fitbook, a functional fitness and nutrition journal to help adults reach health goals.
Fitbook junior is easy yet structured and engaging and helps children set goals, track progress with their star stickers and earn rewards.
"This is a real passion project for our company," Angela Manzanares a self-professed "fitlosopher" at fitlosophy inc., a California company, which created the journals.
"If we can teach the kiddos when they're young to make healthy choices, we can play an active part not only in combating the trend in rising childhood obesity, but play a major role in changing the shape of America -- literally," Manzanares says.
