AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Fifty-one percent of U.S. adults say they are eating dinner at home more often and 37 percent budget food shopping trips more strictly, a survey indicates.

The Shopping Trends Tracker survey for Whole Foods Market, conducted by Harris Interactive, indicates 68 percent U.S. adults say they have changed their cooking and eating habits because of the current state of the economy.

Seventy-six percent say they do not want to compromise on the quality of the food they buy, regardless of current food prices, while 75 percent say they continue to purchase natural and/or organic foods in the same quantities as they always have.

Among parents who provide breakfast, packed school lunches and/or after-school snacks, 45 percent say they would like to find ways to provide healthy foods within their budget, but 20 percent say they insist on providing these healthy food items, with little attention to price.

The survey of 2,188 U.S. adults, of which 441 are the parents of children ages 3-17, was conducted online by Harris Interactive July 31-Aug. 4. No other survey details were provided.
