Canada recalls Sprouts Alive-brand onions

OTTAWA, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat Sprouts Alive baby onion sprouts because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The agency said the baby sprouts, with a "best before" date of "04 SE 09," "EX SEP 04 09" or "EX 09 04 09" might have the bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.

The sprouts were distributed in Alberta, but might also have been distributed in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the manufacturer, Living Foods Ltd. of Innisfail, Alberta, said.
