GENEVA, Switzerland, June 23 (UPI) -- The World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, says there have been 231 confirmed deaths worldwide attributed to the H1N1 virus.

WHO says on its Web site that as of Monday, there have been 52,160 cases of the so-called swine flu confirmed in about 100 nations since the outbreak started in Mexico in April.

Mexico has had 7,624 cases and the most deaths -- 113 -- while the United States has had the most cases -- 21,449 -- and 87 deaths.

Canada is third in cases and deaths, 5,710 and 13, respectively.

Argentina has reported seven deaths, Chile four and Colombia two. Algeria, Australia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Britain have each recorded one confirmed H1N1 fatality.

Chile (4,315), Britain (2,506), Australia (2,436) and Argentina (1,010) are the only other countries with at least 1,000 confirmed cases of swine flu.
