BOSTON, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- A U.S. health newsletter offers ways to sneak in a workout without having to sneak to a gym.
The Harvard Health Letter devotes a single topic special issue to stealth ways to get more exercise. The suggestions include:
-- Park further away. Walking from the farthest corner of the parking lot will burn a few calories.
-- Swing the arms when walking to help reach the brisk pace of 3 to 4 miles per hour that is the most healthful.
-- Join the kids playing on a playground or splashing around in the water. Playing along will strengthen muscles and bones and set a good example.
-- Clean house. Fifteen minutes vacuuming burns around 80 calories.
-- Combine exercise with socializing. Adopt someone as your walking, jogging or biking partner or even a buddy with four legs. Several studies have shown that dog owners get more exercise those without dogs.
-- Taking the stairs is good for your legs, knees, and cardiovascular system, but don't overdo.
