CALGARY, Alberta, June 21 (UPI) -- Chiropractors perform potentially dangerous medical procedures that can result in permanent or debilitating injuries, a Canadian class-action lawsuit alleges.
Lawyer Daryl Wilson alleges in the major lawsuit against chiropractors in the Canadian province of Alberta that chiropractic practices are a potential danger to anyone who undergoes them, The National Post said Saturday.
"It has got to be stopped," Wilson says of the profession in her lawsuit.
The class-action suit stems from an injury allegedly suffered by lead plaintiff Sandra Nette during a chiropractic visit. The 41-year-old suffered significant paralysis to most of her voluntary muscles due to the procedure, the suit alleges.
The lawsuit, which also names the government of Alberta and the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors, is seeking $500 million in damages.
The Post said the financial figure includes $100 million for all the suit's plaintiffs and $400 million for all chiropractic fees collected during the last decade from chiropractors in the province.
