Survey: Skin issues peak for women in 40s

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 24 (UPI) -- Most women say a skin care professional is the best source for skin care information, but 12 percent seek skin care professionals, a U.S. survey indicated.

Eighty-four percent of women have at least one issue with their skin, and skin issues appear to peak among women in their 40s, who report having four skin care issues, the survey indicated. The survey was conducted by The Segmentation Company, a division of Yankelovich, Inc., for Obagi Medical Products, Inc.

Nearly half of those surveyed -- 47 percent -- said they are not happy with the condition of their skin.

Forty-six percent of all women surveyed said no matter how good their hair or clothes look, they can't feel good about themselves if their skin is in poor condition, the survey said.

The survey of 1,005 women ages 18 to 75 -- with an average age of 43, with 73 percent Caucasian, 53 percent married and with various incomes -- has a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
