Dr.: Diabetes linked to TB vaccine

BALTIMORE, April 7 (UPI) -- A U.S. doctor who opposes vaccinating diabetics, said type 2 diabetes decreased in children after a single vaccine for tuberculous was omitted.

Data, published in the The Open Endocrinology Journal, revealed a 50 percent reduction of type 2 diabetes occurred in children in Japan following the discontinuation of a single vaccine to prevent tuberculosis.

Dr. J. Barthelow Classen of Classen Immunotherapies of Baltimore proposes a theory that vaccines or other strong immune stimulants may lead to the development of hyperactive immune systems.

In the case of type 1 diabetes, this leads to the autoimmune destruction of insulin secreting cells or in the case of type 2 diabetes, the increase of a immune suppression hormone -- cortisol, Classen said. Cortisol secretion -- linked to metabolic syndrome linked to diabetes and heart disease -- increases after immunization more in Japanese children than Caucasian ones, Classen noted.

"The current data shows that vaccines are much more dangerous than the public is lead to believe and adequate testing has never been performed even in healthy subjects to indicate that there is an overall improvement in health from immunization," Classen said in a statement. "The current practice of vaccinating diabetics as well as their close family members is a very risky practice."
