The products, amounting to thousands of cans and packages, were recalled from eight British supermarket chains after possibly being tainted by diesel fuel during transportation to a processing plant, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday. The recall includes products sold in Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury.
A British food safety official called the potentially tainted salmon "a quality rather than a safety matter," and said the recall affected Marine Harvest Scottish salmon products with a "use date" of between Feb. 7 and Feb. 28.
Marine Harvest is one of the world's largest salmon farmers and operates numerous aquatic farms in Scotland's west Highlands.
