LONDON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- British officials have called for an investigation of Internet sites that encourage young people to commit suicide.
The Ministry of Justice is examining laws that could prevent Web sites from distributing information regarding suicide methods, The Times of London reported Saturday.
"The review is currently considering its responses to the call for evidence, including those on suicide, and will publish its final report in March," a spokesman for the Department for Children, Schools and Families said.
It has been reported that during the past seven years, 28 people, seven of which were children, committed suicide after visits to "how to commit suicide" Internet sites.
"The general response from (Internet service providers) is that there is nothing they can do unless a site is shown to be breaking the law. The problem is that the law is inadequate," a father whose son killed himself after looking at suicide Internet sites said.
