Fifty-seven percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the total cost they pay for their healthcare, while 39 percent are dissatisfied, the Gallup's annual Healthcare survey found.
However, of the roughly 6 in 10 Americans who have private health insurance plans, a shrinking number report that that their employers pay their full premiums. In 2001, 24 percent said their employers paid the full health insurance premium; compared to 15 percent today.
Among those who pay some or all of their own healthcare premiums, a majority have consistently said they are paying more for their healthcare than they did a year ago -- 26 percent say their costs have gone up "a lot" in the past year, and 43 percent say "a little."
Eighty-three percent of Americans rate the quality of healthcare they receive as excellent or good, while 15 percent rate the quality as poor. Seventy percent say their healthcare coverage is excellent or good.
The telephone survey of 1,004 U.S. adults was conducted Nov. 11 to 14 and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
