Woman sheds 140 pounds

WEYMOUTH, Mass., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A 47-year-old mother from Massachusetts lost 140 pounds and dropped 10 dress sizes after having a new type of weight-loss surgery.

Patty Hill was 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 280 pounds. She suffered from depression and planned to have gastric bypass surgery until her friend died from a blood clot a week after having the procedure done, CNN reported.

Her cardiologist recommended she consider lap-banding, a less-invasive form of weight-loss surgery in which an adjustable band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to restrict the amount of food it will hold.

Since her February 2005 surgery, Hill has gone from a size 18 dress to a size 8, she said.

"I can't eat bread, potatoes, rice," Hill said. "I have to cut up everything into pencil eraser-size (pieces) and chew, chew, chew."
