ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- An outbreak of measles has been reported in a Michigan elementary school.
The first case at Burns Park Elementary School is believed to have been a student who was infected overseas, Liz Margolis, a spokeswoman for the Ann Arbor School District, told the Ann Arbor (Mich.) News. Two more students who show symptoms are being tested.
After the first case was reported, parents of children who had not been immunized against the disease were asked not to send them to school. Margolis said that 10 students have not received the vaccine for religious reasons.
Measles has become a rare disease in the United States since vaccines were introduced decades ago. The disease is highly contagious and spreads person to person.
