LANSING, Mich., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Lansing, Mich., removed a 900-pound man from his home, using a forklift to lower him from a hole cut in the wall his bedroom.
Lansing Fire Chief Tom Cochran said firefighters were called in to remove the man from his second-floor bedroom after a visiting nurse decided the man needed medical attention, the Lansing State-Journal reported Wednesday.
Cochran said the man, who was reported in stable condition Tuesday, hadn't been outside his home since 2003.
"It doesn't happen often but we have had to extricate people in situations like this," Cochran said.
He said it took firefighters about three hours to remove the man from the home.
The man's brother told the State-Journal he suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes sufferers to feel a powerful desire for food and prevents them from feeling full after they've eaten.
