Sex health information lacking on campus

PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The second annual Sexual Health Report Card found a lack of access to information and resources may prevent some U.S. students from being sexually healthy.

The University of Minnesota and University of Wyoming were considered to have "well- evolved" sexual health programs and were the most sexually healthy schools according to the study of 139 colleges and universities, surveyed by Sperling's BestPlaces on behalf of Trojan. Rounding out the colleges with the best sexual health programs were: the University of Washington, Rutgers University and Purdue University.

Researchers polled student health centers and reviewed their Web sites to assign a grade point average for sexual health resources across the following 11 separate categories:

-- Sexual health awareness programs.

-- Condom & contraception availability.

-- HIV testing.

-- Other sexually transmitted infection testing.

-- Student health center hours of operation.

-- Drop-in vs. appointment-based service.

-- Navigability and usability of Web-based sexual health information.

-- Anonymous advice/newspaper columns.

-- Lecture outreach programs.

-- Student peer groups.

-- Sexual assault programs.

The universities found to have the least access to information and resources concerning sexual health were: Villanova University, University of Arkansas, Arkansas State University, University of Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University.
