WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 26 (UPI) -- U.S. firm Par Pharmaceuticals said Thursday it has begun shipping additional dosage strengths of generic Toprol-XL.

The company said it would ship metoprolol succinate extended release tablets in 100-mg and 200-mg strengths.

The move comes as part of a supply and distribution agreement with AstraZeneca that Par entered into in 2006, in which it agreed to distribute metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets in the United States.

The generic product is equivalent to AstraZeneca's Toprol-XL extended-release tablets.

Par estimated combined annual U.S. sales of Toprol-XL in 100-mg and 200-mg tablets at $778 million, based on data from IMS Health.
