WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 19 (UPI) -- U.S. generic drug firm Par said Thursday it has settled its patent dispute with Ortho-McNeil over its sale of a generic version of the pain drug Ultracet.

Under the deal, Par has agreed to pay Ortho-McNeil royalties based on sales of tramadol/acetaminophen through Nov. 15, after which Par will halt sales of the painkiller.

The agreement also requires Par to pay back royalties on sales of the treatment from Aug. 2006 to June of this year.

Par launched the generic version of Ultracet in April 2005.

The deal ends a patent lawsuit filed by Ortho-McNeil against Par subsidiary Kali Laboratories, filed in a federal district court in New Jersey.
