DETROIT, July 11 (UPI) -- U.S. firm Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories said Wednesday it has been approved to market a generic version of AstraZeneca's Tenormin.

The company said atenolol tablets have been approved in three strengths: 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg.

The drug is indicated for the management of hypertension, long-term management of patients with angina pectoris and in the management of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality.

Caraco said annual sales of the brand and generic drug combined totaled roughly $102 million for the 12 months ending in March, quoting data from IMS Health.
