Roxane launches generic Norvasc

COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 10 (UPI) -- Roxane Laboratories said Tuesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its generic version of Pfizer's high blood pressure drug Norvasc.

Roxane said its product, known by its generic name amlodipine besylate, is available for immediate shipment to wholesalers and pharmacies nationwide. The amlodipine tablets are available in bottles and some doses are also available in unit dose blisters.

Amlodipine besylate tablets generate annual sales of $2.7 billion, according to Roxane.

Norvasc, which is approved in 88 countries, is indicated for treating both high blood pressure and angina. The most common side effects associated with the medication include edema, headache, fatigue and dizziness.
