WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 9 (UPI) -- U.S. generic drug maker Barr Pharmaceuticals said Monday its subsidiary Barr Laboratories has been approved to market a generic version of Dostinex.

Dostinex (cabergoline tablets), made by Pharmacia & Upjohn, is indicated for the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders, either idiopathic or due to pituitary adenomas.

Barr said its abbreviated new drug application relating to the new approval was taken over by Israeli generic firm Teva Pharmaceuticals when Teva acquired Ivax in January 2006.

Barr said it would launch a product supplied by Teva in September.

Quoting market data from IMS, Barr said Dostinex sales totaled approximately $68 million for the 12 months ending in May.
