TITUSVILLE, N.J., June 28 (UPI) -- U.S. drug maker Janssen said Thursday its schizophrenia drug Invega has been approved for market in the European Union.

The company said Invega (paliperidone prolonged release tablets) is designed to deliver the drug's active ingredient paliperidone through the osmotic delivery system, OROS.

The product will be marketed in Europe by Janssen-Cilag, and is sold in the United States by Janssen.

Janssen said the European approval is based on data from studies involving more than 1,600 patients with acute schizophrenia in 23 countries.
