FORT WORTH, Texas, June 20 (UPI) -- Galderma said Wednesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Differin Gel for the treatment of acne.
Differin Gel, which will be available by July, is a higher concentration of the topical retinoid Differin, and may help treat moderate to moderately severe acne.
"Our clinical studies demonstrate that Differin Gel, 0.3 percent is effective in treating more severe cases of acne, while still offering the favorable tolerability profile which physicians and patients have come to expect from Differin," said Albert Draaijer, Galderma's president.
The Differin Gel approval is supported by a trial involving 653 patients with moderate to moderately severe acne. The gel was well-tolerated and the 0.3 percent formulation was efficacious in improving acne.
