St. Jude OK'd on defibrillators

ST. PAUL, Minn., May 9 (UPI) -- U.S medical device maker St. Jude Medical said Wednesday it has been approved for U.S. sales of its newest heart rhythm-management devices.

The firm said it has been cleared to market the Current implantable cardioverter defibrillator and the Promote cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator for patients with potentially fatal heart arrhythmias and heart failure.

St. Jude said the new devices are the first to be designed using the Unity consolidated hardware and software platforms, which the company said would allow it to more quickly update all of its cardiac devices with new features and diagnostics.
