FTC looking at Schering-Plough acquisition

KENILWORTH, N.J., May 4 (UPI) -- Schering-Plough said Friday U.S. authorities requested more information pertaining to its acquisition of Organon Biosciences.

Schering-Plough said the Federal Trade Commission on May 2 asked for additional information regarding the firm's planned acquisition of Organon, which is the human and animal health care business of Akzo Nobel.

The company did not provide any further details about the information requested by FTC, but said it will cooperate fully.

"A request for further information is typical in a transaction of this size," Schering-Plough said in a statement.

The company reiterated its expectation the acquisition would be completed by the end of the year.
