LONDON, April 2 (UPI) -- British men are comfortable talking about their sex lives and their social lives with friends, according to a survey of top bar talk topics.

The survey, commissioned by the British Beer & Pub Association, found that sports were discussed 64 percent of the time by men in pubs, followed by work at 40 percent, politics at 40 percent and wife or girlfriend issues at 26 percent.

In fact, discussing their wife or girlfriends jumped from 9 percent in 2005 to 26 percent in 2006.

Men were also more comfortable talking about their sex lives -- from 24 percent in 2005 to 27 percent in 2006.

Women were also more likely to talk about sex than they were a year ago -- up from 14 percent to 19 percent, although the weather was a slightly more popular topic of conversation at 20 percent. The women's favorite pub topic was their social lives at 59 percent, up from 42 percent the previous year.

"What we talk about in the pub reveals the truth about what's really important to us," Pete Brown, author of "Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer," said in a statement. "This research proves that men are a lot more thoughtful and articulate than we are often given credit for."
