Industry survey: Cosmetic surgery popular

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- For every surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedure done on a U.S. man, nine more women get nipped and tucked, says the 10th Consumer Attitudes Study.

Last year U.S. women had more than 10 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures, compared with nearly 1 million procedures for men, according to the survey conducted by the research firm Synovate for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

The ASAPS has been charting the public's general feelings toward cosmetic surgery for a decade.

Sixty-two percent of respondents were in favor of cosmetic surgery -- the highest ranking since the study was founded.

Other findings include: 61 percent of men and 63 of women are likely to approve of cosmetic surgery, while senior citizens are 11 percent more likely to approve of cosmetic surgery than they were a year ago, and adults ages 18 to 24 are more likely to approve of cosmetic surgery than any other age group.
