Health-provider search engines unveiled

NEW YORK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A new series of search engines tailored to U.S. healthcare professionals has been launched.

SearchMedica Psychiatry and SearchMedica Primary Care, operated by healthcare publisher CMPMedica, work like other search engines but only display results pre-screened by other health professionals.

SearchMedica Oncology is expected to be released later in 2007, the company said.

The products are designed to provide narrower and more credible search results than mainstream search engines, which can return millions of hits on medical topics, according to spokeswoman Cyndy Finnie. The specialty engines return a few thousand hits for the same searches and organize search results into categories.
