The company said it is testing the treatment for maintaining vascular patency in patients with arteriovenous access fistulas (AVF) and arteriovenous access grafts (AVG) for dialysis treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
"Early results for Vascugel in its target patient populations are promising to date," Michael Conte, associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and the study's co-lead investigator, said in a statement issued by the company. "All 30-day primary endpoints of the study were achieved, with no significant safety issues."
Pervasis said it expects to launch a phase 2 study of the allogeneic cell therapy in 2007.
