WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Barr Laboratories said Tuesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration OK'd its generic version of Pfizer's anti-panic drug Xanax XR.

The generic name of the drug is alprazolam, and it is used to treat panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.

Barr said it intends to launch its product immediately in order to tap into a market that has annual sales of $83 million.

The side effects associated with the drug include allergic reactions that can lead to difficulty breathing, hallucinations and changes in vision.
