HAWTHORNE, N.Y., March 3 (UPI) -- Acorda Therapeutics said Friday it has completed enrollment in its phase 3 study of multiple-sclerosis drug Fampridine SR.
The company is studying the drug in more than 200 MS patients to test the drug's effectiveness in improving walking ability.
Secondary outcomes of the trial include measurements of leg strength and muscle spasticity, Acorda said.
The company said it should have data from the study by the third quarter of this year.
Fampridine-SR, licensed from Irish drug maker Elan, showed in phase 2 studies to improve walking speed in MS patients.
Acorda also announced it has more than doubled its sales force for Zanaflex Capsules -- approved for the management of spasticity -- with a continued focus on the neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation markets.
Acorda earlier this month completed a $33 million initial public offering, issuing 5.5 shares of common stock at $6 per share, according to reports.
