Wellpoint names Larry Glasscock new CEO

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Health-insurance giant WellPoint has named current board member Larry Glasscock its new chairman, president and CEO.

Glasscock succeeds Leonard Schaeffer, who stepped down as WellPoint chairman and as a board member one year after WellPoint's mega-merger with health insurer Anthem.

Schaeffer said he left WellPoint to focus on developing public-policy solutions for the nation's most pressing healthcare issues.

WellPoint Inc. is the largest publicly traded health-benefits firm in the United States in terms of membership and is the independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
